Orton-Gillingham is a direct, multi-sensory structured, sequential, way to teach literacy when reading, writing and spelling does not come easily to individuals, such as those with dyslexia. Orton-Gillingham is best thought of as an approach in the hands of well-trained and experienced instructors. Instructors are focused on the fidelity of the approach while taking advantage of the breadth, depth and flexibility of the methods to adapt to each child. Orton-Gillingham is considered the gold standard for students with learning differences such as dyslexia. All children, regardless of learning differences or not, can learn from the Orton-Gillingham approach through structured, multi-sensory learning.
